Com sempre, el Barça admirat arreu.

Catalonia’s team, Barça, pulls raves from everybody. From Alacant to Perpinyà, from Lleida to Minorca, the Catalonians had (during the Fascist dictartorship fostered by the Americans  — and still now not totally destroyed, for the spanish Fascists are still in power and the Catalonians not yet quite independent), had all those criminal years nonetheless a brilliant national team, and that team was Barcelona, Barça for the friends. Now it is time for the Catalonians to have a national team properly named: CATALONIA, and time to leave Barça to its own destiny: that of continuing to be the best club team in the world.

Franklin Foer entrevistat per Mother Jones ens parla del Barça… Agost, 2004.

"MJ.com: It also seems that some clubs, like Barcelona, function almost as what Marxists might call "harmless" venues for fans to express their frustrations towards their government.

FF: Sure. Barça is sort of this opiate of the masses — during the Franco dictatorship, it was a harmless outlet for Catalans to vent against the regime.

At the same time, Barça, which is my favorite team, also represents something more than a mere distraction. I think it represents a healthy vision for what a nation should look like and how it should behave. We were talking about the sociology of the game; well, Barça is a team that genuinely manages to transcend class. You go to games and you see fat bourgeois guys with cigars sitting next to street cleaners. There’s this vision of what a liberal society should look like that’s embedded in the concept of the team and the Catalan nationalism it represents.

MJ.com: But Barça seems to spring up out of a very unique historical situation. Could that sort of "liberal nationalism" really be replicated elsewhere?…"
